About the Artist

Jay Smith is a contemporary artist, designer and maker based in Hove, East Sussex.

Working under Smith Design since 1990, Jay has built a career spanning graphic design, prop making, puppet design, web design and visual art. This diverse creative background continues to influence his painting practice, bringing a strong sense of composition, craftsmanship and visual balance to every piece.

His contemporary abstract paintings are often inspired by architecture, geometry and modernist design. Drawing on years of experience in visual communication, Jay creates carefully composed works that explore shape, structure, colour and space. While each painting develops organically, a strong graphic quality and architectural influence remain at the heart of the work.
